RadioShack to start selling iPad 2 from March 29

The Apple iPad 2 has just been made that much more easier to buy. As easy as reaching out to the nearest RadioShack retailer in your locality. Presumably, demand for the hottest Apple tablet has been sky high with the tablet requiring 3 to 4 weeks of shipping time from Apple’s online stores. Now with 500 of the 4500 RadioShack stores also coming into the scene to offer the iPad 2, procuring the device has become easier though its not clear as of now how many of the iPad 2 that the Fort Worth, Texas-based retailer is starting out with. In any case, this can be considered the early signs of an improving supply chain network for the tablet with shipping times expected to come down soon.

The Cupertino based company has already been under heavy strain to deliver iPad 2 once the tablet entered 25 countries world wide. Further, some experts believe the natural disasters in Japan will have an adverse impact on the supply of some key components such as the electronic compass, the battery and maybe even the touchscreen glass leading to a delay in shipment of the iPad 2. However, many are also of the opinion that Apple’s tendency to contract multiple manufacturers for its components might ensure production remains unhampered and that shipments continue unabated.

The other retailers currently offering the new iPad 2 apart from RadioShack include Target, Best Buy and Walmart with carriers Verizon and AT&T also having the iPad 2 in their inventory. However, supply to these locations has been far from stable with nearly all of them showing the out of stock message from time to time.

RadioShack however isn’t new to selling Apple branded products as the retailer has already been offering the iPod as well as the iPhone. Inside sources indicate the deal to include RadioShack amongst the retailers also offering the iPad 2 has been finalized only about two days ago showing Apple’s eagerness to aggressively market the tablet which, unlike the first gen iPad is up against a resurgent competition this time.
